Wyoming, Michigan – May 10, 2016 – Tails are wagging in happiness at the Wyoming Dog Park, where new equipment was installed this spring.
Greeting the city’s four-legged friends are a large “canine castle” and smaller “top dog bridge,” made from low-maintenance durable recycled plastic. The new equipment cost $5,178; funding came from the Wyoming Parks and Recreation millage as well as through annual Wyoming Dog Park membership fees, which are used for the park’s maintenance and operations.
Founded on the vision of a citizen group that petitioned the Wyoming Parks and Recreation Commission to explore a dedicated area for pets, the Wyoming Dog Park opened in 2009. The 2.2-acre enclosed park, featuring areas for
large and small dogs, is located just north of Kimble Field in Wyoming’s Marquette Park. Entry into the dog park area is controlled by a key fob access to ensure pets are vaccinated and licensed, creating a safe environment for owners and their pets.
“The Wyoming Dog Park is the result of a successful collaboration between the Citizens for Dog Park Committee and the City of Wyoming Parks and Recreation Department” said Rebecca Rynbrandt, the city’s director of community services. “We are excited to incorporate this new equipment to the park, which will enhance the experience for our canine members.”
The Wyoming Dog Park is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Membership is required and can be purchased at the Parks and Recreation office, 1155 28th St. SW. Proof of required medical records and a current dog license are necessary for membership.
The annual fee is $12 for Wyoming residents and $24 for non-residents, and is renewable on Jan. 1 each year. For more information, contact the Wyoming Parks and Recreation Department at 616-530-3164.
