The Wyoming City Council has appointed local resident and business owner, Sheldon DeKryger, to fill the first ward council seat that was vacated by Bill Ver Hulst due to his resignation earlier this month. DeKryger received votes from all five council members who were in attendance at the special meeting held on March 26. First ward resident Jennifer Franson also interviewed for the position.

DeKryger and his family have lived in Wyoming since 1995 and he is very active in the community. In addition to serving on the City’s Construction Board of Appeals for the last nine years, he is also involved with Tri Unity Christian School and Resurrection Life Church.

DeKryger has a degree in economics from Calvin College and he currently owns and manages a residential building company that is based in Wyoming. He will serve out the remainder of the term which expires this fall, at which time he plans to run again for the seat.
