Posted on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 | News & Announcements

The City of Wyoming Clerk’s office is seeking election inspectors for the Nov. 5, 2024 General Election.

The City anticipates hiring approximately 250 election inspectors for the Nov. 5 General Election to staff 30 polling locations throughout the City. Additionally, the City of Wyoming will be hosting an Early Voting Center (EVC) prior to the Nov. 5 election from October 26 through November 3 at the KDL – Wyoming Branch.

To serve as a Wyoming election inspector, a person must be registered to vote in the State of Michigan. However, inspectors do not necessarily have to be registered to vote in the City of Wyoming. Additionally, students who are at least 16 years old are also eligible to serve as election workers.

Election workers earn $210 per day; precinct chairs and co-chairs earn $50 and $25 in additional compensation per day. To learn more and apply to become an election inspector, please visit www.wyomingmi.gov/elections.

Those working on Election Day should be prepared to work from 6 a.m. until all duties are complete following the close of polls at 8 p.m.

The duties of an election inspector include assuring that applications to vote are accurately completed, verifying a voter’s identity, issuing correct ballots, recording the voter number and ballot number, tearing off the perforated ballot number tab before the voter inserts their ballot in the tabulator,  assuring voter secrecy is maintained, providing excellent customer service and accurate information to help voters.

Precinct chairs, along with their co-chairs, are responsible for supervising the election inspectors assigned to their polling location. There is one precinct chair for each of the City’s 30 polling locations. Precinct chairs ensure that opening, closing and quality check duties are performed, handle any issues that may occur, and deliver reports and information at the end of the day.
