The City of Wyoming will offer its annual Community Clean-Up Day on Saturday, Aug. 7 to encourage residents to maintain their properties and dispose of unwanted items in a responsible manner.
Residents can drop off trash, unwanted items and donations for the Salvation Army from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grand Rapids First Church, 2100 44th St. SW. Plummers Disposal will provide refuse hauling and Kent County will accept recyclables. Proof of residency is required at both drop-off sites such as a photo ID, utility bill, mortgage, lease, insurance policy.
Unlike in years past, household hazardous waste such as automobile liquids and cleaning supplies will not be accepted at the event due to scheduling conflicts. Residents who need to dispose of these materials can visit the City’s household hazardous waste collection site at 2350 Ivanrest Ave. SW 1-3 p.m. Mondays and 7-9 a.m. Thursday.
When arriving at the clean-up event, residents are asked to enter the parking lot through the northeast entrance off 44th Street SW and follow the signage. All residents are asked to be in line by 1:30 p.m. to dispose of their items.
“We’re excited to offer the clean-up once again to assist our residents with disposing of unwanted items, especially since we had to cancel last year’s event due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Dave Rupert, building inspection supervisor. “Our annual Community Clean-Up Day helps to beautify our neighborhoods and reduce the risk of blight throughout the community.”
In addition to the event, the Wyoming yard waste drop-off site at 2660 Burlingame Ave SW will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are no limits to the size of branches or shrubs accepted at the site. However, residents must unload the yard waste themselves and all containers must be removed from the facility.
Some items, such as mattresses and tires, have a disposal fee of $10 to $15 each.
For more information and a complete list of accepted items, visit wyomingmi.gov/cleanup or call the City of Wyoming at 616.530.7226.
